Egypt beat South Sudan 5-0 in a 2027 AFCON qualifier in Juba on Tuesday. Omar Marmoush scored twice as Egypt moved to four points from two games, while South Sudan stayed bottom of Group B.
Egypt beat South Sudan 5-0 at Juba Stadium on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, in Group B of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Mostafa Ziko opened the scoring in the 36th minute, Omar Marmoush scored twice, Ibrahim Adel added a third and Hamza Abdelkarim completed the rout in stoppage time.
Egypt was in control from the start, with Ziko’s opener coming after early pressure and Marmoush doubling the lead shortly after halftime. Egypt then pulled away through Ibrahim Adel in the 75th minute, Marmoush again in the 83rd, and Abdelkarim in the 92nd.
Before kickoff
The result came after Egypt began the campaign with a 0-0 draw against Angola, while South Sudan had lost 2-1 to Malawi in their opening qualifier. Egypt coach Hossam Hassan left captain Mohamed Salah out of the lineup because of the artificial-turf pitch in Juba.
Group B implications
The win lifted Egypt to four points at the top of Group B, at least until Malawi’s later match against Angola on Tuesday, while South Sudan remained bottom without a point. The 48-team qualifying campaign is being played home and away across six matchdays, with the top two teams in groups without a host qualification place moving on to AFCON 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
CAF’s fixture release had set South Sudan v Egypt for 29 September as part of the opening two matchdays of the qualifying window. The tournament itself is scheduled for 19 June to 17 July 2027.
